THE EPSOM EDIT

Epsom clocktower

Hi there!

Welcome to The Epsom Edit, your twice-weekly scoop of what’s happening in and around our town.

Wet and grey has been the theme so far this week. And while we all know that the weather can have a real impact on our mood (see Yougov poll here), there is also nothing more therapeutic than having a bit of a moan about the weather to break the ice. So here we find ourselves, doing just that…

In today’s issue:

  • Ways to spend a rainy day around Epsom

  • Good news for accessible travel

  • Friendly reminder

If you like what you read, please forward it to a friend or neighbour. It’s how small, local things grow big.

Thanks for reading!

Ways to spend a rainy day in Epsom

The drizzle is here to stay and a lot of us might be looking to swap the squelchy park walk for something a little bit more cosy (and dry). For inspiration, here are my top things to do on a rainy day in Epsom.

  1. Step Back in Time at Bourne Hall Museum

Bourne Hall is a real buzzing community hub with the Flying saucer cafe, museum and regular events and activities inside. The museum gives a fascinating glimpse into Epsom’s past from its spa-time days to the railway reaching the town. It’s a perfect indoor wander, and kids will love the quirky exhibits (ask about the Epsom Salts connection!). The park outside is lovely for a quick puddle-splash and ducks and swan watching when the clouds break.

  2. Retreat to The Secret Garden Café

Tucked behind Ewell Court Library, this cafe is the very definition of a hidden gem. The Mediterranean-inspired dishes are lovingly made and their coffee ethically sourced. They also have seasonal potted flowers and plants on sale which are always a joy to look at when they are in bloom.

Welcome sign at the secret garden

  3. Pick up essentials at the Ashley Centre

Stay dry and browse the Ashley Centre, where you can tick off errands, pick up a treat from one of the many independent coffee shops or food places around.

  4. Get Creative at The Horton

A rainy day is the perfect excuse to try something new. The Horton often runs art, craft, and family workshops and even if there’s no class on, it’s worth visiting just for the airy café and gallery space. Keep an eye on their programme; there’s always something inspiring happening indoors. We once joined a taster Spanish lesson there and enjoyed it!

  5. Catch a Film at Epsom Picturehouse

Simple, classic, dry. Whether it’s a blockbuster, arthouse pick or a kids’ matinee, Epsom Picturehouse is a reliable go-to for a rainy afternoon.

IMPROVING ACCESSIBLE TRAVEL IN EPSOM

Big step forward for accessible travel in our area! Surrey County Council has expanded the Aira Explorer app trial to eight new locations, and that now includes Epsom Station and the Clock Tower interchange.

The free service lets blind and partially-sighted users connect via video with trained visual interpreters who guide them between bus stops and rail stations helping them travel more independently. The expansion builds on earlier coverage in Guildford, Woking and other towns in Surrey.

More information about the trial here.

A VERY EPSOM CHRISTMAS CARD (REMINDER)

Our local MP Helen Maguire is inviting young creatives from Epsom and Ewell to design her official Christmas card for 2025! The competition is open to all primary school aged children living in the constituency. A great excuse to bring all the felt tips and glitters out!

Email [email protected] to get a template and details for submission. The deadline is 14th November 2025.
